Wedding Dress Alteration guide for Lafayette & West Lafayette area Brides

Trusted by Lafayette and West Lafayette brides for flawless wedding dress alterations. As a Purdue graduate with over 20 years of sewing experience and 4-H competitive sewing background, I'm here to guide you through your wedding dress alterations process. Here's what to expect for your first appointment and everything you need to know before you come.

When to Book Your Appointment

Planning your wedding timeline? I recommend scheduling your first bridal gown fitting 2-3 months before your wedding day. This allows time for multiple fittings to ensure a perfect fit. Your first appointment typically takes 45-60 minutes, where we will discuss your vision, assess what alterations are needed, and create a timeline for your fittings. Most wedding dresses require 2-3 fittings total. Rush alterations are sometimes available, but booking ahead ensures the best results and less stress as your big day approaches.

What to bring to your first fitting

Come prepared to make the most of your appointment. Bring the undergarments and shapewear you plan to wear on your wedding day - the right foundation garments are crucial for proper fit. Your wedding shoes are required for this fitting. I also recommend bringing any accessories you're considering, such as belts, sashes, or veils, so we can see the complete look together. Finally, if you have inspiration photos showing specific bustle styles or details you love, bring those along. Having everything with you ensures we can visualize your complete bridal look and make the best alteration decisions.

Alteration Costs and What to Expect

Wedding dress alteration costs vary based on the complexity of your gown and the work needed. A $150 deposit will be due at your first fitting. Simple alterations like a plain hem typically start around $200 while more complex work such as taking in the bodice, adding a bustle, or working with intricate beading or lace requires additional time and expertise. During your first appointment I will take down all information discussed to compile a quote. You will receive a detailed quote once work has begun on your dress. Most brides invest between $500-$1200 for comprehensive alterations. Your dress will fit beautifully and feel comfortable all day long.

Gown Cleaning and Preservation

Your wedding dress is a keepsake worth protecting. After your big day, I offer professional gown cleaning and preservation services to keep your dress in pristine condition for years to come. Wedding dresses should be cleaned within a few weeks after your wedding to prevemt stains from setting - champagne, makeup, and perspiration can cause damage if left untreated. My preservation process includes expert cleaning, careful pressing, and archival quality packaging that protects against yellowing moisture, and deterioration. Whether you want to preserve your gown for sentimental reasons, pass it down to future generations, or potentially resell it, proper preservation is essential. Ask me about cleaning and preservation options during your alteration appointments!
